For the past twenty-three years Fred Simon has been the executive producer at  the Center for Independent Documentary and is responsible for the development and production of all programming.   His duties include developing new projects, supervising producers, as well as producing, directing, shooting, and editing.

Mr. Simon is himself an independent producer of documentaries.  His programs for PBS have been called “undeniably powerful” by the New York Times, “unusually intelligent” by the San Francisco Chronicle, have earned awards from the American Film Festival, the Athens Film Festival, and are currently in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.  In addition, he is currently a part time Assistant Professor of film/video production at Clark University.
